MEGADETH is a thrash metal band formed in 1983 by Dave Mustaine after he was fired from METALLICA.
It is also well known that Marty Friedman, who is now based in Japan and active as a television personality and musician, was once a guitarist in the band.
With total record sales exceeding 50 million copies and a Grammy Award win in 2017, MEGADETH stands as one of the “Big Four” of thrash metal alongside METALLICA, ANTHRAX, and SLAYER.
The band went through numerous lineup changes over the years. In 2002, Dave Mustaine announced that he would suspend his music activities due to an arm injury, and the band disbanded.
In 2004, MEGADETH reunited with a lineup centered around Dave Mustaine and continued to perform actively. However, it was announced that the band would end its activities in 2026 after releasing new music and completing a farewell tour.
